Decades ago it became clear that Omaha needed to power itself into the 21st century with continued investment in its downtown. And so began an urban renewal effort that would become the envy of many other cities.
At one point, the vision for downtown Omaha was just that: a vision. It has taken years — decades even — for the city to become what it is today. The Capitol District occupies a key site for the future of Downtown Omaha, connecting the Old Market to the events district and linking the Riverfront to the downtown business district. The effort has also focused on complementing the experience of the nearby CenturyLink Center, TD Ameritrade Park and other entertainment venues. The result: a dynamic destination that provides a fun Omaha experience for residents and visitors.
